At UBI Business School, we take a distinct approach to Artificial Intelligence. For us, the use of technology, particularly AI, is here to support, improve and get better outcomes by helping humans to improve their capabilities, both knowledge and skills. In other words, to strengthen human capability, not to replace it.
Over two years of research with students, lecturers, and employers revealed a clear concern: GenAI is widely used, but often poorly understood. This skills gap drives avoidable mistakes, inefficiencies, and higher organisational costs.
— John Nosta, innovation theorist, 2025
Stakeholders also warned of “cognitive offloading” (the Google effect), where outsourcing thinking weakens memory, reasoning, and problem‑solving. UBI’s Enhanced Learning is designed to counter these risks and rebuild the human capabilities organisations need most.
The main objective of AI-enhanced learning is for participants in UBI’s programmes to be able to:
Acquire knowledge about GenAI, how it works, and its limitations.
Apply this knowledge to analyse and assess the outputs of GenAI.
Construct new understandings on uses and applications of GenAI.
Recognise the ethical implications and boundaries of GenAI use.
GenAI has changed what expertise looks like. The shift is not about what technology can do, but about what people must now bring to it.
The barrier has shifted. Tasks that once required years of expertise are now within everyone’s reach — GenAI has closed the technical gap.
But the human one has risen. Judgment, critical thinking and intentional use of technology are now the true competitive edge.
EU & OECD aligned. UBI’s AI literacy approach is built on the European Commission and OECD framework — combining technical understanding, durable skills and future-ready attitudes to work with AI confidently and responsibly. This enables students to learn to engage with, create using, manage and design AI — while critically evaluating its benefits, risks and ethical implications across four core domains. UBI adopts this framework within the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act.
The standard UBI builds to:
Why an Axolotl?
The axolotl never undergoes metamorphosis — it stays in its learning stage its whole life, just as Alexandr.ia is designed to remain forever a student
Always-on AI Tutor.
Agents created by lecturers.
Sources filtered from 15 million verified citations — minimising AI hallucinations.
Code generation in 50+ programming languages.
Concept maps.
Course summaries direct from Moodle.
Feedback on assignments against faculty rubrics.
Practice tests and interactive cards.
Unlike other alternatives, Alexandr.ia is designed not to deliver final answers. Instead, it’s engineered to:
The goal is to use technology not as a shortcut, but as a means to create more value, make better contributions and enhance productivity through a Human AI First approach. But the real value still depends on human judgment, critical thinking and intentional use of the technology.
